Just one new dress for a summer’s worth of style and confidence

If you’re someone who shies away from a dress because you lack body confidence or just aren’t sure what style suits you, you’re not alone. Dresses are the perfect piece of clothing to help you look and feel good, but it can be hard to choose something when there are all seasons to consider and so many styles, fabrics, and patterns. But once you get it right, you’ll love the freedom of slinging on a summer dress with sandals, beach shoes, heels or trainers for a different look each time. Dress up with a smart jacket and accessories or dress down with a hoodie – the possibilities are endless and just one favourite dress can give you so many great looks for day and night. Here are some go-to ideas for wherever your mood takes you.

The Trench Dress

Trench dresses are smart, sophisticated and have a flattering button-up fit cinched at the waist with a belt. They’re ideal for work days into dinner dates and can be worn in a few different ways. Wear with smart boots and a leather tote bag for a business look or style with a hat, sandals and a shopper for a casual day out. In winter, sleeveless or short sleeve trench dresses can be worn over longer sleeved tops.

The Denim Dress

An absolute must-have for any wardrobe. Denim dresses are a timeless classic, hard wearing, comfortable and casual, and work in all seasons. There are so many ways to work a denim dress. A strappy mini creates a cute pinafore look over t-shirts or works well as a skirt with a sweater on top on colder days. For a smarter look wear a floral or plain blouse under instead. For an easy summer dress that will go with anything and withstand adventures the denim dress should be your go to!

The Midi dress

If you’re not so keen on bare thighs then the midi dress will help you feel more confident and look great with heels. Show off your curves with a bodycon style or choose an A-line or boho style for a looser fit. Patterns can also work as great camo for areas you’re not too keen on. Style with a short jacket to make the most of your waistline. Denim or leather jackets with lace up boots with a midi dress work great for casual looks or add a blazer for a wedding or work look.

The Spotty Statement

Spots really do suit everyone and make a colourful, fun outfit. They’re perfect if you want a cute dress but you’re not into florals. A short sleeved spotty mini dress is smart casual at its most versatile. Darker coloured fabrics with black boots and a black biker jacket work well for a date night, or swap for a blazer for work, or, wear with trainers for a carefree run-around style. A spotty little number is also a fabulous cocktail dress when teamed with heels. For a sophisticated vintage look, try a flowing long spotty dress too.

The Statement Dress

If you want to make a statement, then choose a bright patterned dress with black or matching accessories. Red is a brilliant base colour for a daring look but you don’t have to bare all. Try a long sleeve dress in red and black camo or animal print, tie dye, or abstract floral prints. Keep accessories plain and let the dress stand out. For evening wear as a cocktail dress, try heeled knee-high boots or contrasting stilettoes. To dress down a statement dress, try a plain cardigan or light denim jacket with plain pumps. In winter, wear black or dark tights under a statement dress with court shoes for a smart, individual look.
